BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's swimming and diving team traveled to Brockport on Friday evening, and earned a 197-103 victory. The win marks the Knights fifth-straight to open up the season.
Abby Funk gave Geneseo a hot start to the meet, taking first overall in the 1000 yard freestyle, posting a time of 10:51.17. Teammates
Hannah Brockman and
Maura O'Donnell made it a clean sweep of the top-three in the event.
Erin Johannsen kept the winning ways going in the 100 yard backstroke, posting a time of 1:01.86, then
Chloe Marcyan followed suit in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:11.14.
Alex Sotek joined in, posting a time of 2:16.18 for a top finish in the 200 yard butterflly, then added another first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke at 2:13.17, beating out Funk by .18 seconds. O'Donnell recorded another win for the Knights in the 500 yard freestyle, tallying a time of 5:23.24.
Chloe Marcyan finished up the individual events for the Knights by touching the wall in 4:45.43 in the 400 yard IM in first place. Geneseo then closed out the swimming portion of the meet in the 200 yard freestyle relay, as the team of
Sibby Lowe, Johannsen, Sotek, and
Kaitlyn Geary took first at 1:37.66.
In the diving events,
Morgan Davey won the one-meter dive at 252.45, while
Lydia Benjamin and
Lauren Savage finished second and third, respectively. Benjamin and Savage went on to tie the three-meter dive with a score of 233.40, while Davey finished htird at 232.25.
Geneseo will split up next week, going to the DIII shootout in Chicago and hosting a tri-meet with RIT and Trinity (Texas).
