Dotterweich Records 400th Career Win As Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Sweep Season-Opening Quad Meet

WEBSTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo men's and women's swimming and diving head coach, Paul Dotterweich, recorded his 400th career win after both teams earned a sweep at the Knights season-opening quad meet. Geneseo defeated Brockport, Penn St. Behrend and Grove City on both the men's and women's side Saturday afternoon at the Webster Aquatic Center.

Men's Recap:
The Knights opened up the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Dylan Gallub, Alex Palmer, Jack Keene, and Brian Pabisch out-touched Grove City with a time of 1:32.74. Geneseo kept the momentum going in the 1000-yard freestyle with Colin Babbitt taking first at 10:11.62, while Oliver Lutz took second. Gallub then picked up his second win of the meet by finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.21. Palmer followed suit in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 56.60 in first place.

Connor Baird joined in on the winning ways for the Knights, recording a time of 1:59.54 in the 200-yard butterfly, winning the race by nearly five seconds. Jake Nielsen went on to record back-to-back first place finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles, recording times of 20.77 and 46.46, respectively. Palmer picked up his third first-place finish of the meet in the 200-yard breaststroke, recording a time of 2:06.08. Pabisch kept the momentum going in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a time of 51.28 in first place. 

Palmer continued his dominant performance at the meet in the 200-yard IM, posting a time of 1:57.21 in first place. The Knights closed out the swimming portion of the meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay, where Pabisch, Nielsen, Gannon Moore, and Gallub record a time of 1:23.51 for the first-place finish, while Nick Lemmo, Peter Peyser, Matt Pinzon Pacheco, and Lucas Keahon took second at 1:25.32.

In the diving events, Greg Meder picked up a sweep by winning both the 1 and 3 meter dives. In the 1-meter, Meder recorded a score of 303.45, then followed it up with a 336.40 in the 3-meter dive. FULL RESULTS | TEAM SCORES

Women's Recap:
The Knights began the meet with a bang, as the team of Alex Sotek, Emily Thomas, Sibby Lowe, and Erin Johannsen finished first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.30, while the team of Molly McGourty, Maura O'Donnell, Chloe Marcyan, and Erin Zagrobelny took second place. Abby Funk kept it going for the Knights in the 1000-yard freestyle, taking first with a time of 11:06.38, while Thalia Marquez came in second. Hannah Brockman competed in the 200-yard freestyle for Geneseo and finished first overall with a time of 1:58.80.

Lowe picked up her second win of the meet in the 50-yard freestyle, recording a time of 24:36, while Sotek followed suit in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.22 in first place. Thomas kept the momentum going for Geneseo in the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 2:26.74, while Chloe Marcyan took second behind Thomas. Lowe went on to tally her third, first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 58.67. The Knights closed out the swimming events with the team of Lowe, Sotek, Johannsen, and Kaitlyn Geary in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where they took first place at 1:37.59.

In the diving events, Morgan Davey took first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 235.95, while Lydia Benjamin finished first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 247.10. FULL RESULTS | TEAM SCORES

Geneseo will return to the pool on Friday, Oct. 24 at Canisius at 6 p.m.
