CHICAGO, IL: The Geneseo Men's Swimming & Diving team competed at the DIII Shootout hosted by the University of Chicago.
Jake Nielsen took fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.51. He continued to help the team with a 58.37 finish time in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Griffin Merkling had a time of 51.70 in the 100-yard backstroke, giving him fifth overall. In the 200-yard backstroke, he took fourth with a finish time of 1:53.84. He had another great race in the 200-yard IM, finishing sixth at 1:56.25. Teammate Connor Baird had a great finish in the 400-yard IM, finishing at 4:12.30.
The 400-yard medley took fifth with Griffin Merkling, Alex Palmer, Brian Pabisch and Jake Nielsen finishing at 3:24.15. The 200-yard freestyle team of Brian Pabisch, Jake Nielsen, Jordan Nielsen and Dylan Gallub finished in second and beat the current pool record at the meet.
In the 1-meter dive, Trent Makowiec set a new pool record and D3 Shootout record with his score of 377.40. He narrowly missed a second record in the 3-meter, scoring 331.00. He set the current record of 335.80 at U of C at last year's meet.
The Knights head to Kenyon College next week to compete at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invite.
