GENESEO, N.Y. - The Empire 8 announced the 2024 women's tennis all-conference teams on Tuesday, Oct. 29 and SUNY Geneseo had four student-athletes earn recognition.
Natalie Pipes and
Samantha Rava were named First-Team Singles and Third-Team Doubles, while
Rachel Molloy brought home Second-Team Singles honors and
Joann Catalano Third-Team Singles.
Natalie Pipes competed at first singles all season for the Knights and helped them reach the conference championship match. She posted an impressive 7-3 mark at first singles in dual matches, highlighted by a key victory over Nazareth in the semifinals that helped give Geneseo the 5-4 victory. As a doubles team with
Samantha Rava, they teamed up to go 4-1 at first doubles. Rava was stellar at second singles all season long for the Knights posting a 8-2 record. She won at both first doubles and second singles in the semifinal win over Nazareth, with a thrilling three-set victory in singles to help seal their spot in the championship match.
Rachel Molloy played both third and fourth singles for Geneseo in the fall, recording an overall record of 9-2 combined at the two spots, good enough to earn Second-Team honors. Rounding out the All-Conference awards for the Knights was
Joann Catalano who was named to the Singles Third-Team after going 7-3 between fifth and sixth singles.
Rava was also named Geneseo's to the Empire 8 2024 Women's Tennis Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
