ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's swimming and diving team came out on top at the Brockport Invite on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Golden Eagles, Grove City, and Penn State Behrend. The Knights took first overall with 1017 points, while Grove City was in second with 727.
The relay team of
Griffin Merkling,
Jake Nielsen,
Brian Pabisch, and
Jordan Nielsen opened up the meet on a high note for the Knights, taking first overall in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:33.02.
Colin Babbitt followed it up in the 1000 yard freestyle with a first place finish and a time of 10:12.37, beating out second place by just two seconds. Merkling went on to win his second event of the meet, finishing the 100 yard backstroke with a top time of 52.69.
At the halfway point of the swim events, Pabisch tacked on another first place finish, recording a time of 20.87 in the 50 yard freestyle. Nielsen kept the momentum going in the 100 yard freestyle, touching teh wall with a time of 47.00 seconds. Merkling tallied his third win of the meet in the 200 yard backstroke, while teammate
Chris Varrichio was close behind in second place. Alexander Palmer picked up another first place result for the Knights, posting a time of 2:09.00 in the 200 yard breaststroke, and then tallied his second of the meet a few events later in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:58.85. Geneseo capped off the meet with the team of
Jordan Nielsen, Pabisch,
Dylan Gallub, and
Gannon Moore winning the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.27.
Trent Makowiec swept the diving events, posting scores of 291.40 in the one meter dive and 359.85 in the three meter dive.
Greg Meder took second in both with scores of 268.05 and 294.55, respectively. For the full results from the meet,
