GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's swimming and diving team opened up its 2024-25 season with a 203-85 victory over Alfred St. in Alumni Pool on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Geneseo opened up the meet with the 200 yard medley relay, and the team of Courtney Sorbello, Sarah Cooper, Alise Hale, and Alex Sotek earned the win with a time of 1:50.13. Thalia Marquez stepped up for the Knights in the 1000 yard freestyle and took first at 11:31.73. Hannah Brockman made it three straight wins for the Knights, finishing in the top spot for the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.69. Sotek and Cooper then tallied their second, first place finishes of the day with times of 1:01.19 in the 100 yard backstroke and 1:11.11 in the 100 yard breaststroke, respectively. Maeve Wright continued the winning ways for the Knights by taking first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.49. Emily McCord marked the halfway point of the swim events with a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.70.

Sorbello tallied her second win of the meet in the 100 yard freestyle, taking first with a time of 56.05. Abby Funk then topped the leaderboard in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:18.91. McCord picked up another win, this time in the a distance event by posting a time of 5:36.8 in the 500 yard freestyle. Hale kept the momentum going in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in first at 59.21.

In diving, Lydia Benjamin swept both events by scoring 214.25 in the one-meter dive and 215.10 in the three-meter dive. Lauren Savage finished second in the one-meter and Donna Clark second in the three-meter. For the full results from the meet, click here.

Geneseo will return to the pool next Saturday, as they compete in a quad meet at the Webster Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.
