ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's swimming and diving team traveled up to RIT on Saturday afternoon and pulled out a sweep by defeating the Tigers (158-141) and the University of Rochester (187-112).
The Knights kicked off the meet with a second place finish and a time of 1:51.50 in the 200 yard medley relay, but then
Hannah Brockman and
Abby Funk followed it up with a dominant performance in the 1000 yard freestyle taking first (10:48.74) and second (11:03.66), respectively. The Knights kept the winning ways going in the 200 yard freestyle, with
Madison Sargent (1:57.05),
Amaya DiGiovanni (2:00.01) and Brockman (2:00.05) sweeping the top three. A few events later,
Alise Hale joined in on the action with a time of 2:13.73 for a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly.
Alex Sotek provided another big highlight for Geneseo in the meet, finishing first overall in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.82. Sargent and DiGiovanni then added another solid showing to their resume by taking first and second in the 100 yard freestyle at 53.95 and 54.27, respectively. Brockman and Funk went on to dominate another distance event, finishing first and second in the 500 yard freestyle, respectively. Hale tacked on her second win of the day in the 100 yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:00.02.
Lydia Benjamin highlighted the diving portion of the meet for the Knights, taking first in the one meter dive with a score of 252.30. In the three-meter dive, Alexandra Pucci-Schafer posted the top score for Geneseo in third place with a score of 248.25, while Benjamin took fourth at 248.10.
