GENESEO, N.Y. - Freshman track athlete,
Emily Lopez, is set to take off for the Parapan American Games, hosted by Santiago, Chile, from November 21-25. Lopez will be representing Team USA in the seventh edition of these games, and will be competing in the 200 meter and 400 meter races, as well as the long jump.
"I'm excited to gain experience and represent Geneseo on the international level," said Lopez. "My track journey began in high school, I competed all four years, and a paralympic coach reached out to me and informed me about the paralympic track circuit. So, I started competing over the last few years on that circuit, and my results last year at nationals in Chula Vista, C.A. allowed me to be selected to go to the Parapan American Games."
"Our team is so proud to see Emily earn this incredible opportunity to represent Team USA," said track and field head coach
Chris Popovici. "I've only been around a few freshman that have displayed her level of determination, work ethic, and awareness, so I'm happy we get to celebrate her. Young athletes dream of pulling on the USA jersey to represent the country and she's about to."
