CLEVELAND, O.H. - The SUNY Geneseo men's swimming and diving team entered the second semester 6-0 on the season, but couldn't keep the win streak going on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Case Western, 162-138,
Sam Matthews got the Knights going on the swimming side, placing first in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:42.40 to earn nine points.
Jack Cimorelli then kept it going in the fifth event for the men, narrowly winning the 100 yard breaststroke at 58.03, with second place touching at 58.23. The Spartans won the following event, but then
Jake Nielsen brought home the 50 yard freestyle at 21.04.
Matthews earned his second, first place finish of the meet in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 46.20, then two events later Cimorelli followed suit by getting the top spot in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:09.30. Cimorelli capped off his afternoon by earning another first place finish, this time in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:55.88. Geneseo took first place in the final swim event of the day, with
Mark Crocker,
Jordan Nielsen,
Connor Towers, and
Jake Nielsen touching the wall at 1:24.96 in the 200 yard freestyle.
The Knights dominated the diving events, placing top three in both the one and three meter dive.
Trent Makowiec won both with scores of 331.87 and 349.45, respectively.
Geneseo will return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 20 when they host Brockport.
