EAST LANSING, Mich. - The top-ranked SUNY Geneseo Women's Cross Country team raced to a third-place finish at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University on Friday afternoon.
The Knights took third with a total of 127 points, finishing behind only NCAA Division I Michigan State and NCAA Division II Grand Valley State, for the top NCAA Division III team finish at the meet.
Kathleen McCarey finished eighth overall, the second NCAA Division III student-athlete to cross the finish, with a time of 21:43.07.
Windsor Ardner took 19th with a time of 22:18.78 while first-year
Sierra Doody placed 41st overall, crossing in 22:46.66.
Marcie Hogan (47th, 22:52.08) and
Lilly Fowler-Conner (48th, 22:52.63) rounded out the Knights top five while
Rachel Hirschkind, Gabriella McCarthy and
Katherine Vogel also finished within the top-100.
Geneseo finished ahead of defending NCAA Division III national champion Johns Hopkins (fourth) and several NCAA Division I institutions including Cincinnati and Western Michigan.
The Knights will compete again on Saturday, running in the Yellowjacket Invitational hosted by Rochester.
