Knights Cap Off Regular Season With Big 5-4 Win At Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team capped off their regular season in dramatic fashion as they traveled to Cortland on Sunday afternoon and pulled out a 5-4 victory to clinch their No. 3 seed for the SUNYAC tournament.

The Knights faced a 2-1 deficit after doubles action, as senior Natalia Krol and sophomore Rory Tobin earned the one point with a 8-4 victory. Needing to win four out of the six singles matches to get the win, junior Abigail Rockwood got the momentum started for Geneseo with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at sixth singles. Senior Grace Klomp was the next Knight to earn a point as she rolled at fourth singles to a 6-3, 6-0 score. First-year Julia Paolino picked up the fourth point at fifth singles by winning 6-3, 6-3. The match came down to Tobin at third singles, and she was able to come up clutch for Geneseo by winning back-to-back tiebreakers for a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) win.

The Knights locked up the third seed for the postseason tournament and will take on Oneonta in the semifinal matchup at Binghamton on Friday, April 29.
