OSWEGO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Women's Cross Country team placed seven runners in the top 10 finishers to earn an 11th-consecutive State University of New York Athletic Championship (SUNYAC) crown on Saturday morning at the championship meet hosted by Oswego.
The Knights crossed the finish in a massive pack, with seven Geneseo runners finishing within a 40-second time stint. Lilly Folwer-Conner was the first Knight across the finish, traversing the 6k course in 22:56.1. Sierra Doody and Gabby McCarthy followed closely behind finishing fifth and sixth, respectively with times of 23:04.0 and 23:04.8. Penelope Greene led the next group of Knights across the finish as she, Katherine Vogel, Kaitlyn Grossman and Ann Brennan finished seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth, clinching the team's 11th-consecutive conference championship. The Knights have won 21 out of 22 SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Championships since 2000.
The Knights placed first with 30 points while Brockport finished with 76 for second place. Cortland took third place with 80 points while Oneonta finished fourth with 109. New Paltz, Plattsburgh, Fredonia and Oswego rounded out the team scoring while runners from Potsdam and Buffalo State also competed in the championship.
Geneseo will race again at the USTFCCCA Niagara Regional Championships in Rochester on Saturday, Nov. 12.
