GLASSBORO, N.J. / BUFFALO, N.Y. - The top-ranked SUNY Geneseo Women's Cross Country team earned a narrow first-place finish at the Inter-Regional Border Battle in New Jersey, and ran to seventh place at the Canisius Alumni Classic on Saturday afternoon.
INTER-REGIONAL BORDER BATTLE
Geneseo sent half its squad to compete at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University. The Knights placed first overall with 37 points, narrowly defeating No. 17 Carleton (Minn.) by one point.
Kathleen McCarey came in third place overall to pace the Knights with a 21:26.5 finish in the 6K race.

Erin Eivers,
Marcie Hogan and
Lilly Fowler-Conner ran as a pack, finishing seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively as they all four clocked in right round the 22:15 mark.
Sierra Doody and
Gabby McCarthy finished 16th and 19th as the Knights placed all seven of their top runners in the first 20 finishers.
Geneseo finished with 37 points to sneak past Carleton, who finished with 38 points. RPI, Elizabethtown and Widener rounded out the top-five team finishes.
CANISIUS ALUMNI CLASSIC
The Knights competed at the Canisius Alumni Classic in Buffalo, earning a seventh place finish as a team.
Ann Brennan crossed as the fastest Knight in the 5K race, finishing with a time of 19:04.1 while
Veronica Szygalowicz and
Raechel Zielinski crossed in 28th and 29th, finishing in 19:25.5 and 19:26.8, respectively.
Isabel Marzec and Alexandra Ventresca rounded out the Knights' top five while
Hannah Fiorentine and
Katherine Peterson finished close behind.
Geneseo will compete again at the SUNYAC Championships, hosted by Oswego on Saturday, October 29.
