Knights Drop Lakers To Earn First Victory In SUNYAC Opener

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season, defeating Oswego, 8-1, in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener on Saturday afternoon at the Geneseo Tennis Complex.

The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles flights. Senior Gretchen Ayoub and first-year Abigail Rockwood teamed at third doubles while junior Natalia Krol and first-year Rory Tobin notched a win at second doubles and junior Julianna Schulz combined with first-year Alex Galle for a first doubles victory.

In singles, Rockwood, Tobin, Krol and Galle earned straight-set victories while Schulz earned a three-set win at first singles. After falling in the first set, Schulz rallied to win the second set and took the third-set super-tiebreaker, 10-8, to seal the win.

Geneseo (1-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) will travel to Brockport on Monday for another conference tilt at 5:00 p.m.
