Women's Tennis Defeats Cortland, 6-1,

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team held a 6-1 lead with two matches left to finish when the match was called due to darkness, granting the Knights a 6-1 victory over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent Cortland on Friday evening.

Junior Dana Sorrentino and senior Sam Montague led the Knights to a sweep of doubles, earning an 8-1 victory at the top flight. Sophomores Julianna Schulz and Grace Klomp earned a second doubles win and sophomore Natalia Krol and Sophia Alkhouri Stuart won at third doubles, both by an 8-4 score. 

In singles, Schulz won in straight sets at first singles, 6-4, 6-1, while Krol earned a win at third singles, 6-1, 6-0. Alkhouri Stuart snagged a fifth singles victory, 6-1, 6-1, to give the Knights their sixth and final point. Junior Catherine Gluchowski and Montague each fell in their first set of singles play, but battled back to force a second-set tiebreaker but the match was called for darkness before the tiebreakers could begin.  

The Knights (3-0, 2-0 SUNYAC) return to action on Saturday in Canton when they take part in the St. Lawrence Invitational.
