GENESEO, N.Y - SUNY Geneseo senior Mitchell Phelps earned a pair of individual first-place finishes and helped Geneseo take down a relay as the Knights defeated visiting Cortland, 185-110, on Friday night at Alumni Pool.
Phelps turned in a 1:46.11 in the 200 free and a 51.97 in the 100 fly to take first place in both events. In the 200 medley relay, he led off with a 25.39 backstroke leg and teamed with seniors Kaz Sampson and John Wilson and junior Harry Harkins to clock a 1:36.64 and take first place. Sophomore Sean McClellan finished the 1000 free in 10:07.54, just edging out Cortland's top swimmer by less than half a second to take first. He also took first in the 100 breast with a 1:02.72 finish. Sophomore diver Corey Wirth swept the diving events, scoring 303.85 off the one-meter board and 306.15 off the three-meter board to edge teammate sophomore Ben Wilcox in both events.
The Knights improve to 3-1 in dual meets and will compete at the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca, beginning on Friday, Dec. 6.
