GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior Nina Lurie battled from a set down to earn a third singles victory, but it wasn't enough for the Knights as they fell to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Oneonta, 5-4, on Thursday evening at Alumni Courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo led 2-1 after doubles play as seniors Lauren Salzano and Anika Pornpitaksuk earned an 8-3 win at the first flight while senior Rachel Ollis and junior Vanessa Lam-Tran took the second flight, 8-2.
- In singles play, all six Knights dropped the first set, but Ollis, Lurie and first-year Dana Sorrentino each battled back to win their second set and force a super-tiebreaker at the second, third and fifth singles flights, respectively.
- Lurie and Sorrentino each earned 10-7 superbreaker victories to tie the match at 4-4, but the Knights came up just short of the comeback and fell to the Red Dragons.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo's streak of consecutive victories against a SUNYAC opponent comes to and end at 40. The loss marks their first against a conference opponent since the 2012 season.
- In singles play, the Knights each played two flights up from their typical lineup spot in the absence of Pornpitaksuk and Salzano who were nursing upper-body injuries after doubles play.

The Knights will send four student-athletes to the ITA Regionals, hosted by Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. beginning on Friday.
