Women's Tennis Takes Down New Paltz for Seventh-Straight SUNYAC Crown

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Anika Pornpitaksuk earned a pair of wins and was awarded Tournament MVP as she led the Knights to a 5-3 victory over New Paltz and a seventh-consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship on Monday at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

Pornpitaksuk teamed with senior Lauren Salzano to earn an 8-3 first doubles win while senior Rachel Ollis and junior Vanessa Lam-Tran added a point with a win at the second doubles flight by the same score, as the Knights took a 2-1 advantage into singles play.

In singles, Pornpitaksuk earned a straight-set victory at the third flight, 6-2, 7-6, while junior Nina Lurie notched a win at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-3. Lam-Tran closed out the match with a win at second singles, 7-6, 6-3, to give Geneseo its fifth point, sealing the championship for the Knights.

Pornpitaksuk, Salzano, Ollis, Lam-Tran and Lurie were named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team. Pornpitaksuk posted a perfect 5-0 mark in singles and doubles combined on her way to most valuable player honors.

The Knights advance to this spring's NCAA Tournament for the seventh-consecutive season. Geneseo has now won 11 total SUNYAC titles, one shy of the conference record held by former member Binghamton.
