ELSAH, Ill. – SUNY Geneseo junior Elise Ramirez finished 20th while junior Allison Fernandez placed 22nd out of 332 runners to lead No. 4 Geneseo to third place out of 36 teams at the Cowbell Classic, hosted by Principia (Ill.).
The field included 16 teams ranked in the top-35 of the most recent national polls, including seven of the top-10 squads. The course will be the site of the NCAA Division III Championships next month.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Top-ranked Johns Hopkins won the meet with 74 points, edging No. 3 MIT (76), the Knights (141), No. 24 Wheaton (Ill.) (178) and No. 2 Washington (Mo.) (185) in the top-five of the team rankings.
Ramirez covered the 6-kilometer course in a time of 22:05.57, while Fernandez crossed with a 22:27.59 clocking.
Sophomore Genny Corcoran placed 31st (22:48.19), followed by classmate Dana Cebulski (22:50.17) in 33rd and senior Kristen Homeyer (22:54.21) in 35th to round out the Knights' scorers.
Ithaca senior Taryn Cordani won the race in a time of 20:45.46, besting the field by over 37 seconds.
