Tennis Returns to the Court with 7-2 Victory over Connecticut College

ORLANDO, FLA.– SUNY Geneseo junior Maggie Hale captured both her doubles and singles matches in tie-breakers to help lead the Knights to a 7-2 win over Connecticut College on Monday. Geneseo, ranked No. 15 in the Northeast Region, raised its record to 12-0 in its first match since winning the SUNYAC Championship in October.

Hale teamed with sophomore Lauren Salzano to take the match at number-two doubles, 9-8, with a 7-2 win in the tie-breaker. The win gave the Knights a 2-1 lead after the doubles as the number-one duo of seniors Cat Crummey and Marylen Santos captured their match 8-4, raising their record to 20-2 on the season.

The Knights took five of the singles matches, with Crummey (number-one), Santos (number-two) and Salzano (number-four) each prevailing in straight sets. Hale and first-year Vanessa Lam-Tran both had to go into a tie-breaker to determine the winners after splitting their first two sets. Hale captured the number-five match with a 14-12 tie-breaker win, while Lam-Tran prevailed 10-6 at number-six.Lam-Tran came back after dropping the first set.

Connecticut College entered the match with a 1-0 mark after participating primarily in tournament play in the fall.
