OSWEGO, N.Y.– SUNY Geneseo had six players claim two points each in defeating Oswego Friday, 9-0 in the SUNYAC opener for both schools. Seniors Cat Crummey, Marylen Santos and Mai Hashimoto, junior Maggie Hale, sophomore Lauren Salzano and first-year Mako Tanaka all captured both their singles and doubles matches. The Knights moved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.
Salzano made her Knights' debut in doubles a victorious one, teaming with Hale as a new combination at the number-three spot. The duo matched the wins posted by Crummey/Santos (number-one) and Hashimoto/Tanaka (number-two). In singles, five of the six matches went to the Knights by matching 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The doubles win by Santos gives her 52 in her Geneseo career, matching the totals of Amanda Rosati '15 and Lauren Johnson '11 and one behind the program record of 53 by Kaitlyn Gayvert '12. Santos' singles victory was the 99th overall in her four-year career and her next match win, singles or doubles, will make her one of only five players in Geneseo tennis history to have 100 or more victories in a career.
The Knights will next compete in the Mary Hosking Invitational Tournament, Sept. 12-13 in Geneva, N.Y. The competition is hosted by William Smith and features multiple flights of singles and doubles competitions. Hashimoto captured the C Flight singles at last year's tournament, and the Knights had two doubles teams and one other singles competitor reach their respective flight finals.
