GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Cat Crummey captured first singles while first-year Mako Tanaka didn't drop a game at second singles to lead the Knights to a 9-0 victory over visiting New Paltz, Friday afternoon.
Crummey was stretched to the tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets. She joined classmate Marylen Santos, who recorded a win at number-three singles, to a 8-2 win at number-one doubles. Tanaka and senior Mai Hashimoto were victorious at number-two doubles with Hashimoto adding a win at number-four singles.
Sophomore Lauren Salzano and junior Maggie Hale teamed up to take number-three doubles and each finished the match with wins at number-five and number-six singles, respectively.
The Hawks came into the match unbeaten in four contests against SUNYAC opposition. Both Geneseo (West Division) and New Paltz (East Division) had already clinched the top seeds in their respective divisions for the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament on Oct. 9-11. The Knights and Hawks have meet in each of the last four finals since the championship went to a team format in 2011, with Geneseo claiming all four.
Geneseo returns to action this weekend (Sept. 26-28) with a trip to William Smith for the ITA/USTA Tournament.
