BROCKPORT, N.Y.– SUNY Geneseo's women's tennis team clinched a spot in next month's SUNYAC Championship and is a win away from securing the top seed from the West Division with a 9-0 win at Brockport Tuesday. The Knights moved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the conference.
The senior doubles pairing of Cat Crummey and Marylen Santos ran their season record to 7-0 with their win at number-one doubles. They led 2-0 when an injury to one of the Brockport players led to a default. In singles, first-year Mako Tanaka (number-three) and senior Mai Hashimoto (number-four) also stayed undefeated, with both raising their singles marks to a matching 7-0 with their respective victories.
Tanaka and Hashimoto also paired for the win at number-two doubles. Junior Maggie Hale and sophomore Lauren Salzano combined for the win at number-three doubles and each took victories in singles at number-five and number-six.
The Knights return home on Wednesday at 4 p.m. with a match against Fredonia that will finish their schedule against SUNYAC West Division opponents. A win would clinch the top seed in the division for the SUNYAC Championships in October.
