MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior Sara Rosenzweig finished seventh to lead the Knights to first place out of 44 teams at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Geneseo at Letchworth State Park, Saturday.
The finish automatically qualifies the Knights for their 17th-consecutive NCAA Division III Championship race as the top-two teams in the region earn automatic berths while the other finishers will be considered for at-large berths distributed throughout the nation's eight total regions.
Geneseo took the crown with a total of 75 points. Oneonta finished second with 89 points followed by RPI (103), St. Lawrence (128) and Rochester (165). The individual champion was sophomore Megan Kellogg from St. Lawrence, who crossed the finish line with a time of 21:44.6.
Rosenzweig ran the six-kilometer course in a time of 22:15.4 to capture seventh place while first-year Olivia Ryan was close behind in ninth (22:18.1).
Junior Marissa Cossaro placed 17th (22:30.5) followed by senior Ashton Hughes in 20th (22:43.0) and senior Jacquie Huben in 22nd (22:45.3) to complete the Knights' top-five runners.
Sophomore Kristen Homeyer ended up 24th (22:48.3) and first-year Elise Ramirez came in 27th (22:53.4)
Geneseo, which entered the weekend ranked sixth in the latest USTFCCCA national poll and first in the Atlantic Region, will be in action next Saturday, Nov. 21, at the NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winnecone, Wis. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
