GENESEO, N.Y.– The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team closed out its fall schedule against SUNYAC opponents with a 9-0 home win over Cortland on Friday. Senior Marylen Santos, junior Maggie Hale, sophomore Lauren Salzano and first-years Mako Tanaka and Vanessa Lam-Tran all contributed wins in both singles and doubles.
Hale and Salzano moved up to the number-two doubles slot and raised their record as a team to 8-2 with the win. First-year Corinne Heitmann teamed with Lam-Tran for an 8-2 victory at number-three doubles, while Santos and Tanaka played together for the first time this season and took their match at number-one doubles.
Tanaka raised her singles record to 18-1 with her win at number-one singles. Santos (13-3), Salzano (10-1), Hale (9-2), Lam-Tran (6-1) and first-year Sabrina Ferretti (4-1) all improved their individual records with their respective wins.
The victory was the Knights' 28th-consecutive win against SUNYAC opponents and they have captured 70 of 71 conference matches since 2006.
Geneseo closes out its regular season on Sunday, Oct. 4 with a match against Rensselaer. The Knights will attempt to capture their fifth consecutive SUNYAC championship next weekend, Oct. 9-11, at the conference tournament, held at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
