Undefeated Women's Tennis Advances to SUNYAC Finals with Win over Oneonta

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team qualified for the finals of SUNYAC Championship with a 5-0 win over Oneonta in the first of Saturday's tournament semifinals. Seniors Marylen Santos (number-three) and Mai Hashimoto (number-four) claimed wins in singles to provide the necessary five points after the Knights took a 3-0 lead by winning each of the doubles matches.

Geneseo, the No. 1 seed in the West Division, upped its record to 10-0. The Knights will face the East Division's #1 seed New Paltz in the final on Sunday at 10 a.m. It is the fifth consecutive title match involving the Hawks and Geneseo, with the previous four going to the Knights. The two squads met earlier this season at Geneseo, with the Knights taking a 9-0 win.

The Knights have yet to drop a doubles match in team match play this season. The number-one team of Santos/Cat Crummey has a season record of 18-2, the number-two duo of Hashimoto/Mako Tanaka is 14-2 and the number-three pairing of Lauren Salzano/Maggie Hale has a 10-2 mark.

The singles win for Santos gives her 62 in her career, tying her for second all-time in Geneseo tennis history with Sarah Shields '13.

Geneseo has captured six of the last seven SUNYAC championships and eight total in program history. The SUNYAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in the spring of 2016.
