Pittsford, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo juniors Marylen Santos and Cat Crummey captured their number-one doubles match and also won their respective singles matches, leading Geneseo to a 9-0 win over Nazareth on Thursday. The Knights moved to 2-0 on the season with the non-conference victory.
"The players thought this was an excellent match and a good test," said Coach Jim Chen. "Once again, our singles were very strong, but we can improve in doubles. It's a quicker pace of play than singles and our players are still learning the strategy and tactics we want them to use."
Junior Mai Hashimoto, a transfer from Orange Coast Community College (Calif.), made her Geneseo debut and contributed a victory at number-six singles. In addition to the singles wins by Santos (number-one) and Crummey (number-two), Amanda Rosati (number-three), Dexuan Yuan (number-four) and Karli Hollins (number-five) also captured their matches.
Rosati and Hollins teamed for a win at number-two doubles, while the duo of Maggie Hale and Minxuan Yuan took the number-three match. The number-one team of Santos and Crummey has yet to lose a game this season.
Geneseo's next match will be at the annual Mary Hosking Tournament at William Smith College on Saturday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 7. The tournament format has players competing in three flights of singles and two flights of doubles.
