ROCHESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junor Winny Chen and senior Cassie Goodman placed eighth and ninth, respectively, to lead the women's cross country team to second place out of 22 teams at the Yellowjacket Invitational, hosted by the Rochester at Genesee Valley Park, Saturday.
Chen covered the six-kilometer course in 23:39.4, just ahead of Goodman (23:41.6) in the field of 283 competitors.
Senior Alyssa Knott placed 14th (23:59.2), followed by junior Jacquie Huben (24:16.5) in 21st. Junior Ashton Hughes crossed the finish line 26th (24:20.2) to close out the Knights' top-five.
First-year Sara Rosenzweig was only .05 behind to place sixth (24:20.7), before first-year Melissa Whyman finished 29th (24:21.8) to round out Geneseo's first seven runners.
The Knights will be back in action next Saturday at the Pre-NCAA Meet at the Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, which will serve as host of the NCAA Division III National Championships in November.
