UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – SUNY Genseo senior Cassie Goodman finished 17th out of 130 runners to lead the Knights to sixth place out of 10 teams at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State. Geneseo was the top Division-III finisher in a field comprised of mainly Division-I competition.
Penn State won the meet with 27 points, followed by Syracuse (38), Duquesne (107), Pittsburgh (115), West Virginia (133) and the Knights (141) to round out the top-six team scores.
Goodman clocked the fastest time by a Division-III runner, crossing the finish line in a time of 21:53. Senior Alyssa Knott placed 26th (22:11), before junior Jacquie Huben (32nd, 22:35), senior Keira Wood (33rd, 22:37) and senior Joanna Castrogivanni (34th, 22:40) finished in a tight pack to close out Geneseo's five scoring competitors.
First-year Kristen Homeyer was close behind in 36th place (22:51), along with junior Ashton Hughes (22:55) in 40th.
Geneseo returns to action next Saturday at the Yellowjacket Invitational, hosted by Rochester, at Genesee Valley Park at 11:00 a.m.
