Women's Cross Country Wins Daniel Walker Invitational

HAMBURG, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year first-year Kristen Homeyer finished second out of 70 runners to lead the Knights to first place out of five teams at the season-opening Daniel Walker Invitational, hosted by Buffalo State at the Erie County Fairgrounds.

Geneseo scored 22 points to out-distance Grove City (63) and Brockport (96), Buffalo State (97), Cuyahoga Community College (106) and Medaille (185).

Homeyer crossed the 8-kilometer finish line with a time of 19:33, leading a group of three Knights that swept second through fourth places. Junior Sarah Anstett (19:40) and sophomore Marissa Cossaro (19:41) were less than 10 seconds behind Homeyer.

Junior Shannon Murphy was close behind in sixth place (19:53), two seconds ahead of junior Mary Carroll (19:55). First-year Melissa Whyman (19:59) placed eighth and junior Rayanne Luke ended up 10th (20:03) to round out the Knights top-seven runners.

Geneseo returns to action next Saturday, sending a contingent of Knights to the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State, while another group will head to Brockport for the Golden Eagle Invitational.
