LEICESTER, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior Cassie Goodman won the individual title to lead the Knights to first place out of 19 teams at the 34th-Annual Geneseo Cross Country Invitational at the Letchworth State Park High Banks Recreational Area Course, Saturday.
Geneseo, which was ranked seventh in this week's national poll, totaled a winning score of 35 points to out-distance runner-up Oneonta (111), RIT (125), Toronto (136) and Elizabethtown (Pa.) (146) in the top-five. Oneonta entered the week ranked 15th, while Elizabethtown was 24th and RIT was 32nd. Dickinson (Pa.), which entered the week ranked ninth nationally, placed sixth.
Goodman bested the 286-runner field by covering the six-kilometer course with a winning time of 21:29.4. Senior Alyssa Knott was close behind in fourth place (21:47.3), while senior Joanna Castrogivanni (22:10.2), sophomore Marissa Bellusci (22:12.6) and junior Jacquie Huben (22:16.2) placed ninth, 10th and 11th, recpectively, as nearly all of Geneseo's top-five runners all finished in the top-10.
Senior Keira Wood (22:21.7) and junior Ashton Hughes (22:23.6) rounded out the Knights top-seven placing back-to-back in 15th and 16th, respectively.
Geneseo returns to action on Oct. 18 at the Inter-Regional Rumble, hosted by Oberlin (Ohio).
