OBERLIN, Ohio - SUNY Geneseo junior Cassie Goodman placed 14th to lead the No. 10 Knights to second place out of 34 teams at the Inter-Regional Rumble, hoste by Oberlin.
No. 15 NYU was the top team finisher with 72 points, followed by Geneseo (118), No. 21 Carleton (Minn.) (121), No. 27 Case Western (162) and No. 11 Oberlin (192) in the top five. The Knights also finished ahead of seventh-place No. 31 Elizabethtown (239) and No. 28 Rochester, which finished eighth (267).
"I thought we overall had a good day today," said head coach Mike Woods. "I am encouraged because, while I don't feel we raced our best, we still finished second in a strong field. The Atlantic Region represented itself very well."
Goodman traversed the six-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 17.0 seconds, only 23 seconds behind NYU's Emily Cousens who won the race in 21:54.5. Junior Joanna Castrogivanni was right behind her classmate in 21st place (22:21.7), as was sophomore Jacquie Huben in 24th (22:27.6).
First-year Sara Rosenzweig cracked the top-30 with a 28th-place performance (22:30.2), while senior Mary Aldridge rounded out Geneseo's top five in 31st place (22:33.3).
Senior Bekah Steinke (22:47.2) and junior Keira Wood (22:49.7) completed the Knights' top seven ins 40th and 42nd place, respectively.
Geneseo returns to action in two weeks at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Oneonta, on Saturday (Nov. 2). The Knights look to win their third-consecutive team title and 14th overall in the last 15 years.
