Women's Tennis set to Compete at SUNYAC Championship

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team will be competing it the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship Tournament this upcoming weekend. The two-time defending champion Knights will look to win their fifth conference title and automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament in the last six years.

Geneseo has won six total SUNYAC Championships, including 1998, 2001, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012, while also playing in the 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013 NCAA Tournaments.

Number-one singles player Marylen Santos enters the weekend with a 12-3 record and will also team with junior Amanda Rosati to compete in number-one doubles. The duo has compiled a 6-3 mark this fall.

Junior twin sisters Dexuan Yuan and Minxuan Yuan will be competing at number-two doubles, as well as at number-two and number-six singles, respectively. As a team, they currently stand undefeated at 7-0 this season, while also compiling individual records of 7-3 and 10-1, respectively.

In last year's tournament, Geneseo swept its way to the championship title with three-consecutive shutouts. The Knights started by defeating Cortland, 5-0, before shutting out Plattsburgh, 5-0, in the semifinals. Geneseo defeated New Paltz for the second year in a row, 5-0, to clinch the title.

Geneseo will be playing in its first match this Friday at 2:00 p.m. against Plattsburgh. The winner will advance to the semifinals to take on the winner of the Fredonia/Oneonta match on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Sunday's championship match is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
