Six Things You Need To Know About The 2019 Women's Cross Country Team

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's cross country team kicks off the 2019 campaign this Friday at the Cardinal Early Season Invitational at St. John Fisher. Here are six things to know about the Knights heading into the season.

Fifth-year head coach Dan Moore looks to guide the Knights to their 21st-consecutive NCAA Division III Championship appearance. Geneseo ran to a fifth-place finish last fall for its fifth-straight and ninth top-10 finish in the last 14 years.

While four members of last year's NCAA team graduated, including All-American and SUNYAC Runner of the Year Elise Ramirez, Moore welcomes back a strong contingent of returners. Senior Genny Corcoran was the Knights' top NCAA finisher last fall with an All-American 20th-place effort, while senior Taylor Rettig and junior Olivia Baumann are also back after making their first NCAA appearances. Corcoran also finished runner-up to Ramirez at both the SUNYAC and Atlantic Regional Championships, while Rettig and Baumann also garnered All-Region and All-SUNYAC honors. Senior Annibell Coolican looks to move into Geneseo's top seven after a junior campaign that included a ninth-place SUNYAC Championship showing.

Geneseo will be in the running for its fifth-consecutive NCAA Atlantic Region Championship. The Knights captured their fourth-straight title a season ago for their 11th crown in the meet's 31-year history. Geneseo is also the only program with more than nine championships.

Geneseo won its eighth-consecutive SUNYAC Championship last fall. The Knights have also won 18 total championship (all in the last 19 years) – two more than any other program in the 35-year history of the race.

Geneseo owns the longest streak in Division III for qualifying both its men's and women's teams to the NCAA Cross Country Championships at 16 years. The Knights' women will be in the hunt for their 21st-consecutive appearance at the national championships, while the men's seek their 17th.
