Track & Field To Send 17 Knights To NCAA Outdoor Championships

GENESEO, N.Y. – Eleven women and six men from the SUNY Geneseo track & field program will be competing at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.

The championships are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 24-26, at the Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisc.

Senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani is seeded first (3:42.85) and is favored to defend his national championship in the 1,500. The 12-time All-American will wrap up the most decorated career by a Geneseo runner that included the mile national championship at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships as well as running the anchor leg of the Knights' national champion distance medley relay this past winter.

Junior Shayna Held posted the nation's fourth-best heptathlon score (4,685) to win the Cortland Classic (Apr. 22) and looks to improve on her All-American fifth-place effort in the event last spring. She also placed seventh in the pentathlon at this past winter's NCAA Indoor Championship. First-year Emily Lavarnway (8th, 4,532) and senior Maddie Hammer (17th, 4,459) will also compete in the event.

Junior Erin MacDougall posted Division III's fifth-best time of the spring in winning the 100 hurdles (14.25) at the SUNYAC Championships two weeks ago. She'll be capping a year that included an All-American third-place outcome in the 60 hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships last March.

Senior Camille Wutz logged the nation's sixth-best effort in the long jump (5.81m/19' 0.75") at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic (Apr. 28). She'll wrap up an outstanding Geneseo career that included three All-America performances in the event, including a fourth-place effort at this past winter's NCAA Indoor Championships, as well as eighth and sixth-place showings at the 2017 and 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships, respectively.
