GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior Marissa Cossaro was named a member of the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Team, announced Thursday.
Cossaro, who owns a 3.72 grade point average, graduated earlier this month with a degree in mathematics with a double minor in Spanish and adolescent education. Now an eight-time Dean's List honoree, she was tabbed the State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award winner as well as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Cossaro was inducted into the the Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Sigma Iota and Golden Key honor societies during her time at Geneseo.
Cossaro logged an All-America eighth-place finish in the 3,000 at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships earlier this season. The SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Women's Track Athlete of the Year as well as the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championship Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet, Cossaro won the 5,000 and the mile to help lead the Knights to their second SUNYAC indoor title in three seasons. She also capped the fall with a 39th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships as Geneseo finished third for its third-consecutive top-five team showing.
Cossaro moves on to the national ballot where she will be considered for Academic All-America status. Geneseo has had five individuals combine for eight CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in the history of the award. If selected, she would be the first Geneseo female to ever garner the award.
