Strong Performances Highlights Busy Saturday For Women's Track & Field

MEDFORD, Mass./ITHACA, N.Y. - Individuals from the SUNY Geneseo women's track & field team were in action, Saturday, at both the Tufts Cupid Invitational and the Ithaca Bomber Invitational.

Four Knights finished in the top-10 of the 5,000. Sophomore Elise Ramirez was the top collegiate finisher, crossing the finish line in second place (17:16.48) with the sixth-fastest time in Division III this season. Senior Marissa Cossaro placed fourth (17:25.32) followed by senior Sara Rosenzweig in sixth (17:47.44) and junior Kristen Homeyer in 10th (18:25.50). 

Senior Alexa Wandy and junior Camille Wutz finished first and second, respectively, in the long jump with the top-two performances in the SUNYAC this season. Wandy bested the field with a leap of 18 feet, 6 inches (5.64m) that ranks sixth in Division III, edging Wutz at 18-2 1/2 (5.55m) who posted the 12th-longest effort in the country.

On Sunday, sophomore Shayna Held finished first out of 24 competitors in the the pentathlon competition, posting a personal-best score of 3,034 points. Junior Maddie Hammer also logged a fifth-place effort with 2,943 points.
