Women's Soccer Shuts Out Farmingdale State, 2-0

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Emily Green tallied two goals to lead the Knights to a 2-0 non-conference victory at Farmingdale State, Sunday.

"We had a great first half today and then were able to put them away in the second half," said head coach Nate Wiley. "Green had a phenomenal weekend and both of her goals today were great shots. We couldn't be happier with how she's playing. Defensively, we had a little trouble in the first half with their offensive attack but we made some adjustments at halftime and the back line really responded."

Green put the Knights on the board in the seventh minute when she scored from 25 yards out off an assist from sophomore forward Leah Greene.

In the 36th minute, Green controlled a pass from junior midfielder Laurie Knapp and scored from outside the box to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at halftime. Both teams strung together several offensive opportunities in the second half but were unable to add to the scoreboard.

Farmingdale State (2-3-1) outshot Geneseo, 16-6, on the day as first-year keeper Emily Janiszewski made a season-high eight saves to preserve the shutout.

The Knights (4-1-1) will begin State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play next Friday by traveling to Fredonia. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
