GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore attacker Hannah Marafioti was named All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), announced Monday.
Voted a second-team honoree, Marafioti caps a seasaon in which she also garnered State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year and All-Empire Region First-Team honors.
Marafioti led the SUNYAC with a single-season program record 87 points this spring, including 64 goals that tied for the second-highest total in the league. She was tabbed the Division III National Player of the Week on April 24 after scoring career-highs of 10 points and eight goals, including the overtime game-winner, in Geneseo's 19-18 victory over No. 18 Cortland (Apr. 20).
Marafioti moved up to 13th in program history with 135 career points, including her 100th career goal in the squad's 13-7 win at Potsdam (Apr. 27) to become the 14th Geneseo player to achieve the milestone.
Marafioti is the fourth All-American in program history and first since goalie Claudia Coleates '16 landed third-team honors in 2016. Midfielders Emily Haggerty '14 and Caroline Buonocore '14 received second and third-team honors, respectively, in 2014.
Geneseo finished 2019 with a 14-5 mark to tie the second-highest win total in program history. The Knights also ended the regular season with a 9-0 SUNYAC record for the first time in program history to earn the top seed for the conference tournament. Geneseo defeated fourth-seeded Oswego, 18-5, before succumbing to third-seeded Brockport, 13-4, in its first championship game appearance since 2014.
