No. 10 Women's Lacrosse Downs New Paltz, 18-3, For Ninth-Straight Win

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Emily Haggerty scored five goals to lead the Knights to an 18-3 victory over New Paltz in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play at Turf Field, Saturday. 

Sophomore midfielder Liz Felix added three goals and one assist as the Knights (15-1, 7-1 SUNYAC) earned their ninth win in a row to close out the regular season. 

The Hawks (4-9, 1-7 SUNYAC) scored all three of their goals in the first half, as the Knights won by a 15-goal margin—their largest of the season. Senior attack Caroline Buonocore put the Knights on the board 47 seconds in to the game off an assist from Felix. Although the Hawks evened the score just 50 seconds later, the Knights responded with four-straight goals in a 4:31 span. 

Haggerty and junior attack Katey Hart each scored two consecutive goals, back to back. At 26:59, Haggerty scored on a free position shot and, one minute later, converted another free position shot to bring the Knights to a 3-1 lead. Hart followed with goals at 23:54 and 22:28, with senior attack Meredith Weber getting credit for an assist on the second. 

New Paltz interrupted the Knights' run with a free position goal at 21:07, but Haggerty answered with another goal a minute later following her own ground ball pickup. At 18:50, Felix scored on a free position shot to put the Knights ahead, 7-2. 

With 3:21 left to play of the first half, the Hawks scored their last goal of the game on a free position shot before the Knights scored three unanswered goals. Hart scored her third goal of the game at with 55 seconds on the clock, before Buonocore converted a free position shot 10 seconds later. Haggerty ended the half with a goal with 13 second left for a 10-3 Knights lead. 

Geneseo continued the offensive performance with eight-unanswered goals in the second half. Buonocore started off the scoring spree with a goal in the third minute, before sophomore attack Tara Basile followed up four minutes later after a pass by first-year midfielder Lauren Corbett. One minute later, Felix netted a ball, quickly followed by Weber's first goal of the game, assisted by senior attack Caitlin King

Haggerty scored her fifth goal of the game at 15:50, followed by free position goal by Felix at 12:14. Senior attack Caitlin Lally scored her second goal of the season 1:30 later, assisted by King. With 3:27 remaining, sophomore attack Erin Down netted the Knights last goal, as King recorded her third assist on the day. 

Junior goalie Alexis Pelowski made the only two saves for Geneseo in the last 10:21 of play in relief of junior starter Laura Passamonte

Entering the game, the Knights had already clinched the second seed for next week's SUNYAC Tournament as well as a first-round bye. Geneseo will face third-seeded Fredonia at 3:00 p.m. on Friday in the tournament semifinals, hosted by top-seeded Cortland.
