GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo will take on Ithaca in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament as the 64-team field was announced Monday.
The Knights will take on the Bombers this Friday (March 2) in a game hosted by Tufts. The host Jumbos will also take on Westfield (Mass.) with the two winners advancing to Saturday's (March 3) second round with a berth in the Sweet 16 on the line. Times for all games are to be determined.
The Knights (25-2) received an automatic bid to their fourth-straight tournament after winning their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament since 2015. Geneseo will also be making the 10th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
Geneseo won two home games to kick off the 2017 tournament a season ago, including a 78-72 victory over Rochester to advance to the "Sweet 16" for the second time in three seasons. The Knights have advanced as far as the sectional finals on three occasions, falling to Salem State, 76-65, in 1995, and to Scranton, 79-70, in 1993.
The Knights and Bombers will tip off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 2, with Tufts and Westfield State scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
