FREDONIA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Alyssa Lesakowski scored a career-high 11 points as the Knights remained unbeaten in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with a win over host Fredonia, 69-57.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Knights (13-1, 8-0 SUNYAC) closed the first quarter on a 10-4 run as they outscored the Blue Devils (6-10, 4-5 SUNYAC) 26-18 in the opening frame.
Junior forward McKenna Brooks scored seven points in the second quarter as the Knights entered the halftime break with a 37-26 lead.
In the third quarter, Geneseo used a 14-0 run to take its largest lead of the game, 54-32, with 3:01 remaining in the frame. Fredonia ended the quarter with nine-straight points to cut the lead to 54-41 to enter the fourth.
In the final quarter, the Knights led by 18 points with 5:00 to go, but the Blue Devils responded to make it an eight-point game with 21 seconds to play. However, the Knights finished 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final seconds to close out the win.
Geneseo completed the season sweep of Fredonia with its 24th-consecutive win over the Blue Devils dating back to the 2001-02 season.
The Knights, which entered the day ranked first in the SUNYAC and 30th in the nation in personal fouls committed (170), were whistled for a season-low eight personal fouls during the contest.
The Knights travel to Plattsburgh next Friday (Jan. 19) for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
