Women's Basketball Bounces Back with Victory over Waynesburg, 73-59

GRANTHAM, Pa. - SUNY Geneseo first-year guard Lindsay Halpin scored a career-high 15 points on 6-for-6 shooting to lead the Knights to a victory over Waynesburg, 73-59, in the Hampton Inn Tip-off Classic hosted by Messiah College on Sunday.

Geneseo (2-1) trailed, 8-2, in the first three minutes of the game, but finished the first quarter on a 23-5 run to grab a 25-13 lead at the end of the period.

The Yellow Jackets cut the Knights' lead to six points in the second period, but an 8-0 run, keyed by two threes from Halpin, gave Geneseo a 14-point cushion as the team took a 43-24 advantage into the halftime break.

Sophomore guard Natalie DiSalvo drilled a three-pointer to give the Knights their largest lead of the game, 65-42, with 7:48 to play in the fourth quarter.

Waynesburg mounted a 17-8 run to close the game, but it wasn't enough to match the Knights as Geneseo earned the win.

Junior forward McKenna Brooks netted 12 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while sophomore guard Sara Ciotti added 11 points and five steals.

For a 6:58 span in the first and second quarters, Geneseo outscored Waynesburg, 20-0, to take the lead, and never trailed from that point forward.

First-year forward Emily Lavarnway scored her first career points, going 3-for-3 from the floor to finish with six points.

Geneseo will return to Schrader Gymnasium for its home opener, hosting Morrisville on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
