In her eighth season with the program, Martha Martin returns to her role as assistant coach in 2020 after serving one year as the Knights' head coach.
In 2019, Geneseo posted a program-record 37 wins as it earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and secured the program's first ever NCAA Regional Championship. The Knights defeated Dickinson, 2-1, in the regional opener and staved off elimination with a 6-2 victory over the Red Devils before defeating host Thomas More, 3-0 and 5-4, in consecutive games to advance to the NCAA Super Regional for the first time in program history. Danni Napoli '19 was named SUNYAC Player of the Year while Ashlyn Kersch '20, Brooke Wolff '20 and Hannah Elmer '20 were each selected as SUNYAC All-Stars. Napoli and Kersch went on to earn NFCA All-Region honors as well.
Martin was the varsity softball coach at nearby York High School for 33 seasons. During her tenure, the Golden Knights captured three Section V Championships and seven league championships. Her career at York also included time as the head coach of the women’s volleyball team (1976-1992) and athletic director (2002-2012).
In addition, Martin was the head coach of the SUNY Geneseo women’s volleyball team from 1993-2002. She led the team to a 226-171 record in 10 seasons and holds the highest career winning percentage (.569) among Geneseo’s volleyball coaches. Her 1996 squad posted a 35-12 mark (program-record .745 winning percentage) and made the school’s only appearance to date in the NCAA volleyball tournament.
In 2013, Martin received the Rochester Press-Radio Club’s Jean Giambrone Service Award for exemplary lifetime commitment to local women’s sports.
