GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior Ashlyn Kersch was named to the 2019 CoSIDA/Google Cloud Academic All-District Softball Team announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) last week.
The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. After being selected All-District, Kersch moves on to the national ballot where she will each be considered for Academic All-America status. Only eight Geneseo student-athletes have received Academic All-American distinction, most recently with Isaac Garcia-Cassani '18, Luke Holtzman '19 and Natalie LaCourt '18 earning the honor last spring.
Kersch has accumulated a 3.48 GPA in mathematics while pitching the Knights to their first ever NCAA Super-Regional. Named an All-SUNYAC First Team selection, Kersch has recorded an 18-3 pitching record with a 1.67 ERA while also batting .389 with 11 doubles, four home runs and 32 RBI. Kersch was named NCAA Regional MVP after notching four pitching wins and hitting two home runs as the Knights advanced past Dickinson and host Thomas More in the NCAA Regional this past weekend.
Kersch and the Knights will travel to Trine (Ind.) to face the Thunder in a best 2-of-3 series in the NCAA Super-Regional, beginning Friday, May 17 at 4:00 p.m.
