Softball Falls To Benedictine, 5-1, In Clermont, Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team suffered a 5-1 setback to Benedictine (Ill.) Thursday night, at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida. The Knights' second game of the evening versus St. Lawrence was cancelled in the bottom of the third due to pouring rain.

Against Benedictine, Geneseo held a 1-0 advantage through five innings of play but a five-run sixth inning by the Eagles proved to be the difference.

In the bottom of the first, first-year Emily Martin hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home senior Ashley Fillmore, who reached on a triple down the right-field line.

After Benedictine sophomore Holly Haberkorn singled to right field to tie the game at one, junior Melissa Stoch hit a grand slam to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead which held for the remainder of the game.

The Knights return to action tomorrow against Lancaster Bible at 1 p.m. before facing McDaniel at 3 p.m. to conclude their Spring Break trip.
