Men's Cross Country Lands Six All-Region Honorees

GENESEO, N.Y. - Six members of the SUNY Geneseo men's cross country team were named to the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team, announced Monday.

The top-35 finishers in each of the eight regional championships from around the country garner the award. Geneseo won its second-consecutive Atlantic Region Championship on Saturday, qualifying for its 14th-straight NCAA Division III Championship later this week.

Junior Isaac Garcia-Cassani won his second-consecutive individual title besting the field of 303 runners. Senior Alfredo Mazzuca logged a sixth-place effort for his fourth-straight All-Region finish to go along with a fifth-place showing in 2015 and a 35th-place effort in 2014 that followed a 35th-place finish in 2013 as a first-year at Vassar.

Junior Alexander Burks also ran to a top-10 finish, placing eighth, while junior Connor Pulvidente crossed the finish line in 18th and senior Travis Briggs ended up 19th.

Sophomore Luke Holtzman rounded out the Knights' all-region honorees with a 26th-place finish.

Geneseo was ranked second in the final USTFCCCA Division III poll prior to the national championship race on Saturday (Nov. 19) at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. A season ago, the Knights logged the highest finish in program history, taking third.
