GENESEO, N.Y. – Seven members of the SUNY Geneseo women's cross country team and six men's runners were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region selections.
A total of 560 student-athletes (280 men, 280 women) from 244 programs earned the distinction by crossing the finish line among the top-35 individual finishers at one of the eight regional sites across the nation. In order to be recognized, a student-athlete must compete for a school that is a member of the USTFCCCA.
The Knights women were one of only five teams in the nation that had all seven runners earn all-region as Geneseo placed its whole team in the top-27 of the Atlantic Regional, Saturday.
Junior Sara Rosenzweig (7th), first-year Olivia Ryan (9th), junior Marissa Cossaro (17th), senior Ashton Hughes (20th), senior Jacquie Huben (22nd), sophomore Kristen Homeyer (24th) and first-year Elise Ramirez (27th) were all recognized after leading the Knights to first place and the program's 17th-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships this coming weekend.
On the men's side, Geneseo's top-six finishers were honored. Individual champion and first-year Isaac Garcia-Cassani, junior Alfredo Mazzuca (5th), junior Alex Kramer (14th), junior Travis Briggs (15th), senior Sean Fischer (19th) and senior Brendan Wortner (31st) were honored after leading the Knights to the crown and qualifying for the program's 13th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.
Both teams will travel to Winnecone, Wisconsin, this Saturday for the national championship race hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the Lake Breeze Golf Club. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the men's race taking off at 12:00 p.m.
