GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year Kristen Homeyer was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year while first-year Isaac Garcia-Cassani was named the SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year for their efforts in Saturday's SUNYAC Championship races.
Homeyer placed 11th (22:53.2) out of 118 runners in Saturday's race, as the Knights totaled 19 points to out-distance runner-up Oneonta (72) and the rest of the 10 teams in the race. It was the Knights' 14th title in the last 15 years.
Garcia-Cassani was the Knights' third-fastest runner, placing 12th (26:02.9) in the field of 119 runners. The Knights compiled 54 team points to edge defending champion Cortland by four and the rest of the 10-team field en route to their fifth title in the last six years.
Now in its second year, the award recognizes the top first-year finisher at the SUNYAC Championships. Current sophomore Sara Rosenzweig won the inaugural women's award last season after placing ninth.
