Popovici Named Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year; 18 Individuals Garner All-Region

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo track & field head coach Chris Popovici swept the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Indoor Coach of the Year Awards while 18 of his Knights garnered 30 All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Popovici has now been named the top coach in the region on five occasions during his five seasons as the Knights' head coach, including his second-straight women's indoor award as well as his first men's indoor award. He has also won the last two women's outdoor honors.

Popovici guided Geneseo to its third-consecutive sweep of the men's and women's SUNYAC Indoor Championships, marking the first time one program has achieved the feat in the 39-year history of the event. He also guided the Knights' men to a third-place finish at last weekend's Atlantic Region Championships while the women placed fourth. Ten Knights will also be competing at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston this week.

A total of 1,590 All-Region honors were handed out to 192 different member institutions. There was a near-even split between the genders as women combined for 804 of the honors, compared to 786 for the men. The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams.
